batchixdolls:

I posted some of these to my personal tumblr, but I thought I’d share some over here.  This is a personal custom cast of the elf head, and the plans I had for making that head in the first place!  Now he needs his own wig, since this one was made for a doll with a different shaped head.

Complete Faceup Supplies under $45

elvenaesthetics:

I often see BJD hobbyists state that the only reason their faceups suck is because they can’t afford quality art supplies. As someone who’d spent years in art training, I cannot overemphasize the importance of quality tools, materials and supplies for arts and crafts, however, it is simply a misconception that one can’t find professional quality materials for low price.

Below is a  list I compiled of a basic professional grade art supplies to begin painting your own dolls, all under $45.

Brushes:

CyberStyle 15pcs Nail Art Brush Dotting Drawing Tool Set - $3.99

3M Wetordry Sandpaper, Super Fine 400 Grit, 5-Sheet - $3.29

Paints, pastels, pencils:

Sanford Prismacolor Watercolor Pencil Set, 24-Pack - $25.47

Liquitex BASICS Acrylic Paint Tube 48-Piece Set - $35.30

Rembrandt Soft Pastels Cardboard Box Set of 18 sticks - $24.99

Liquitex Professional Gloss Fluid, Medium and Varnish - $9.14

Cleaners/erasers:

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Cleaner Cleaning Pads - $3.47

Sanford Design Kneaded Eraser - $3.45

You may also want to invest into a greater variety of brushes, but this is good enough for a beginner. Now go and paint that face!
